Victim shoots robber in stomach in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE- A man who ran out of gas in Baton Rouge turned the tables on two teens who tried to take advantage of his misfortune overnight, according to police.

It happened in the 2400 block of North Acadian Thruway.  Investigators said two teens walked up to a stranded motorist and one pointed a gun at him, demanding money.

The victim grabbed the suspect's gun and the two fought over it. That's when police said the victim managed to get his gun out of his car and shoot the suspect in the stomach.

The teens then took off running to Duke Street.

Charo Rogers and Shendlen Reed were inside their home when the suspects came to their home looking for help.

"We were cleaning up and the young man knocked on the door," Rogers said.  "He said he had been shot, so my momma said we not opening the door, anything could happen."

Neighbors say they are familiar with the pair.  They called them troublemakers in the neighborhood.

"Unpredictable," Rogers said.  "Unpredictable, too many of them out here doing God knows what."

Both women believe the suspects got what they deserved.  They just think it's a shame the teens had to learn the lesson the hard way.

"He shouldn't have been out there trying to rob the guy," Reed said.
