Veterans honored at Old State Capitol
BATON ROUGE - Several events scheduled for Tuesday allowed people in the Baton Rouge area to show respect and give thanks for the service of veterans in the state.
The USS Kidd and Secretary of State's Office are holding a ceremony at the Old State Capitol starting at 11 a.m. and going through 1 p.m. It includes a keynote speech from Maj. Gen. Glenn H. Curtis, the La. National Guard's adjutant general.
Veterans are encouraged to wear uniforms or other items which represent their branch of service. The USS Kidd and Veterans Memorial will also offer free tours and admission for people throughout the day.
Governor Bobby Jindal's office released a statement thanking Louisiana's veterans for their service.
"Every day we enjoy liberty and the ability to pursue the American Dream because of those who fought tirelessly before us to protect and preserve the values that our Founding Fathers fought for - and for that we are eternally grateful," Jindal said.
