Vehicle of interest in 7-year-old's murder
BATON ROUGE- The sheriff's office released an image of a car described as a "vehicle of interest" in the drive-by murder of a seven-year-old boy.
Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said at a Wednesday evening news conference, the car is a light-colored, four-door sedan. He released a grainy picture of the vehicle. The image was captured from a surveillance video in the area of the shooting around the time the it occurred, he said.
"We were able to get this video surveillance from a residence that was in the area that had security cameras. So that's how we were able to get the picture of the vehicle," Gautreaux said.
Terrez Coleman was shot riding his family's car on Prescott Road. It is believed gunfire came from a passing vehicle. His sister was grazed by a bullet but survived.
People from around the community have donated $10,000 to anyone with information that leads to an indictment for someone responsible for Terrez's murder. That brings the reward to $12,500.
"We know somebody knows something. So we are hoping that if they don't just come forward because of their own conscience and...come forward and say what they have. Maybe this reward will help motivate them to bring us the information that we need to solve this crime," Gautreaux said.
Earlier Wednesday, a group of pastors called for an end to the violence. They called the issue an epidemic.
