USPS begins sunday deliveries

BATON ROUGE - The U.S. Postal Service is tacking on an extra day to their schedule because of an expected increase in a volume of packages.

Thousands of packages will be delivered throughout Louisiana, and an estimated 470 million packages will be on customer's doorsteps throughout the country.
"I think that's good because of the Christmas rush," said Ora Burton-Hutchinson, who's excited for the extra delivery day.

According to Tommy Battaglia, the supervisor at the Baton Rouge Southeast Station, only packages will be delivered on Sundays; not letters or regular mail.

"So with the volume that we get, we feel like it benefits the customers for us to come on Sundays and get these packages. If we can get them on Sundays, then we'll get them to the customers on Sundays."

The Post Office will continue to make Sunday deliveries through Christmas.
