Two EBR Metro Council races headed for runoff

BATON ROUGE- Four Metro Council Members were re-elected Tuesday, while two districts will have runoff elections.  One of those runoffs involves an incumbent.

Chauna Banks-Daniel believes she has what it takes to lead District 2.

"No part of the district will be neglected," Banks-Daniel said.  "If we will have a true Baton Rouge that is one district, no district can be left behind."

Banks-Daniel is a counselor by day, and says she knows how to listen to people.

"Under my leadership, there will be a full time district office," she said.  "We're also looking into having an online district office."

Former Baker Mayor Leroy Davis is running against Banks-Daniel.  He is also vying for all of the votes.

"I'm committed," Davis said.  " I will stand up for them and be a good representative for Baker, North Baton Rouge and Scotlandville."

In District 12, John Delgado and Incumbent Smokie Bourgeois are in a runoff.

"There are a lot of differences between Smokie and I," Delgado said.  "First, I think ti's obvious I bring a fresh new look to the position of Metro Council.  Smokie has been there for a while and people are ready for change.  Six out of ten voters are ready for change, and I represent that change."

Bourgeois told News 2 he believes he's done a good job.  However, he is worried if voters choose to go in a different direction.

"I don't know how it should always be a slam dunk for the incumbent," Bourgeois said.  "I can appreciate people having other points of view, but I will try to get re-elected if I can.  If not, life will continue."

The runoff election is Dec. 8. Today is the last day to register for that election.
