Trump speaks at Baton Rouge Airport Friday

BATON ROUGE – President-elect Donald Trump will speak at a rally in Baton Rouge Friday afternoon.

After a near 48-hour search, organizers secured the Dow Chemical aircraft hangar at Baton Rouge airport.  Before the election, Trump's schedule was regularly updated with seemingly spur-of-the-moment rallies that were heavily attended.  Events are known to attract thousands of people.  At a campaign event in Baton Rouge in early 2016, more than 10,000 filled the River Center.  A visit Friday may require space for more than the number of people who attended the first Baton Rouge campaign stop.

Trump is set to speak at the event at 1 p.m. Doors open at 10 a.m. and the event is set to start at 11 a.m. Other speakers will take the stage around noon. High-ranking Louisiana republicans have been invited to be a part of the rally, which is described as a get out the vote rally ahead of Saturday's election. WBRZ will livestream the start of the event and Trump's event.

The 40,000 square foot hangar will be able to accommodate the expected large crowd.  Sources who spoke exclusively with WBRZ and WBRZ.com when News 2 broke information about Trump's visit Tuesday said Republican Party organizers were hoping to use the LSU PMAC, but the university has a policy banning large, non-university events during finals week on campus.  LSU students are taking finals through Saturday.

Trump will be stumping for State Treasurer John Kennedy who is in a runoff election against Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell for David Vitter's seat in the U.S. Senate. Vitter decided not to run for re-election after losing the race for governor to John Bel Edwards.

Friday's visit is Mr. Trump's third visit in 2016. In August, Donald Trump spent a few hours touring flood-damaged areas.  He held the campaign event at the River Center in February.
