Troubled Powerhouse Gym opens after several delays
BATON ROUGE- After more than a year Powerhouse Gym on Sherwood Forest is opened for business.
The gym received approval to open it's doors to customers on December 27th, but can only use a small temporary portion of the gym until the rest of the build-out is complete.
Powerhouse began charging customers who signed up for the gym last week.
"I didn't even know that the gym was opened, but they have some sort of make-shift gym inside, it's kind of disappointing that we were never notified, that I was never notified that they were going to start charging my account," said Bayly Welch, who was able to cancel her membership today.
The gym says it will honor its promise to let customers out of their membership agreement if they cancel within 10 days of opening.
"We gave all the members a right to a ten day cancellation and anyone who wants to come in cancel, we're cancelling them," said Ronnie Olah, the owner of the gym. "We know we made a lot of mistakes and right now we're taking every measure that we can to make sure the mistakes are covered and corrected."
Olah says the gym should expand in the coming weeks, adding a group exercise room, a spin room and a personal training center. He says the rest of the gym will continue to be built over the next few months.
"We're in it for the long haul, we're in it for the duration, we're gonna open this gym up and see that it's successful," said Olah.
