Troopers Seek Person of Interest in Fatal Hit and Run

HAMMOND - State Police have identified a person of interest in the fatal hit and run crash that took the life of a skateboarder in Hammond earlier this month.
The suspect is described as a black male driving a dark-colored four-door sedan, possibly a Pontiac Grand Prix, according to Troopers. He was last seen at a gas station in the area shortly after the crash.
The crash happened on University Avenue on May 11 west of US 51 around 10 p.m. The crash claimed the life 26-year-old Erin Gerhard, of Independence.
Gerhard was riding a skateboard in the right westbound lane of University Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle. After the impact, Gerhard was thrown into the left westbound lane where he was struck by another vehicle.
Both vehicles fled the scene. Gerhard was later pronounced dead at the scene.
