Traffic tickets canceled
SORRENTO- The district attorney in Ascension Parish will not prosecute speeding violations written by officer James Bell of the Sorrento Police Department.
Bell told the district attorney's office he did not calibrate his radar gun, meaning violations could not be verified.
Bell has written more than 200 citations in the time period in question. It is unclear the amount that will be canceled, and how much money won't be collected.
People who pleaded guilty and paid fines will not get a reprieve.
In an unrelated issue, Bell was found to have been speeding in his police cruiser more than 700 times. GPS in his car tracked his speed and moves. The issue created a fiery discussion about police officer's use of their department vehicles at a town council meeting earlier this week.
