Tourism industry cashes in on Bayou Country Superfest
BATON ROUGE - City tourism officials said Monday that Baton Rouge hotels took in a record $3.4 million during the recent Bayou Country Superfest.
Visit Baton Rouge said hotel receipts showed visitors to the city spent $1.23 million on Friday, $1.26 million on Saturday, and $914,000 on Sunday during the country music festival.
"Combined with the 2014 Miss USA Pageant, Baton Rouge has been on the world stage as a tourist destination," said Paul Arrigo, president and CEO of Visit Baton Rouge. "We're also set to welcome thousands of people to the city for the youth soccer championship event beginning June 19, so this is shaping up to be a record year for us."
Organizers extended the Memorial Day music festival to an extra day for 2014, adding more artists and events including an appearance by George Strait as part of his "Cowboy Rides Away" farewell tour.
