Tour a Macy's Backstage location
BATON ROUGE – As Macy's works to fight the bleed of shoppers moving away from traditional shopping habits, the company's millennial-focused answer will open here this summer.
Macy's announced wide-spread plans for its nascent store Backstage and told WBRZ previously, the first Louisiana location will open in Baton Rouge. Backstage will be housed in about 16,000-square-feet inside Macy's Mall of Louisiana location.
On Wednesday, April 25, Macy's announced the store will open on Saturday, June 2.
“Backstage offers fashion-loving customers another way to shop at their favorite store by providing a store-within-store shopping experience featuring significant savings on fabulous finds,” the company said in a statement to WBRZ.
WBRZ and WBRZ.com were first to report the change.
Backstage is similar to a T.J. Maxx or Nordstrom Rack – both have locations in Baton Rouge. They are off-price stores that sell known brands at steep discounts. Merchandise might have been overstocked at department stores or are off-season.
Discounts can be huge and at Macy's Backstage, sometimes as much as 80% off.
“Backstage’s focus on value and newness guarantees that with each visit, shoppers will find an amazingly-priced assortment of recognizable brands and trends,” said Michelle Israel, Macy’s Senior Vice President of Off Price.
“Macy’s Backstage in the Mall of Louisiana store was designed to bring great deals and the fun of the hunt into our existing Baton Rouge location.”
There are about 52 Backstage locations already open across the United States. The Baton Rouge location will open June 2, 2018. The company said it will announce a date in the spring.
Macy's said Backstage stores are operated by merchandise buyers who only focus on the outlet store and will feature brands that are not currently available at full-line Macy's.
“...Each Backstage location is specially curated to deliver the perfect style for each community it serves,” Macy's said in its statement.
Macy's plans to open 145 Backstage locations this year.
