Tillery chasing history at Southern

Related Story

Southern running back Lenard Tillery grew up watching and reading about Southern and LSU football.

When he would open the paper on Saturdays, he would always see a list and pictures of "Who to Watch For." For LSU it was always a running back, and for Southern, it was the Quarterback. From that point forward, he dreamed of having his face in that paper one day.

Now, he may have his face and name live on longer than just a daily sports section.

Tillery is 112 yards away from breaking the all time rushing record at Southern. Steve Wofford finished with 3,015 yards after playing for the Jags from 1996 to 98, and the mark has stood ever since.

Tillery has 975 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns so far this season, but says he's amazed that he's this close to breaking history.

"I try to look at it as God's favor on my life," Tillery says. "The favor to play early and get this opportunity."
