Three arrested, meth lab found in Gonzales
GONZALES - Sheriff's deputies in Ascension Parish arrested three people after they said investigators caught them with drugs at a Gonzales apartment complex.
Chief Tony Bacala said on Tuesday deputies arrested Charles Hopp, 32; Brittney Carlson, 23, and Vanessa Via, 25, on suspicion of drug possession and other charges.
Neighbors told News 2 the suspects had kids living in the apartment with them.
"I just feel it's crazy. Why would you do that especially when you have kids and kids around here. Why would you bring that around kids," said Mattie Beasley.
Bacala said deputies were looking into reports drugs were sold at the apartment complex on Highway 621 when they caught Hopp and Carlson with drug paraphernalia. Investigators said they learned the pair lived with Via at the apartment, and got a warrant to search it.
Narcotics detectives said their search found a meth lab, multiple prescription narcotics, and marijuana in the apartment.
Deputies booked the three into the Ascension Parish jail. A judge gave Hopp a bond of more than $75,000, Carlson a bond of more than $70,000, and Via a bond of $65,000.
Bacala said anyone with information about illegal drug activity in the parish should call the sheriff's office at (225) 621-INFO (4636) or texting an anonymous tip to 847411.
