Thousands of turkeys ready for "to-go" Thanksgiving

BATON ROUGE- Many more people are choosing to leave cooking the turkey up to professionals this year.

It's why dozens of restaurants around town will bake, smoke, and fry thousands of turkeys.

"We open on Thanksgiving day so people can come in and pick all their stuff up and go home and eat," said Mike Tramonte, owner of Tramonte's on Jefferson. "So instead of spending several hours prepping the day before and several hours more cooking on that day, come pick up everything and they're ready to go."

Folks who take advantage of the prepared meals say it's the lifesaver of their Thanksgiving.

"It's much nicer, it's much easier to heat it up, put it in a dish and heat it up than it is to cook it and then take it out again and heat it up," said Leslie Duplantis, who was picking up her Thanksgiving meal at Juban's.

Several restaurants will be open tomorrow for people who don't want to cook or clean. Tramonte's will be serving hot turkeys Thanksgiving morning starting at 8 in the morning.
