BATON ROUGE - A gang police say was committing murder, dealing drugs and shooting up houses was busted in a multi-parish round up Thursday afternoon.

Authorities arrested 27 members of the 'Big Money Block Boyz' for charges that include attempted murder, selling illegal drugs, illegal firearms and racketeering. One more member, Donnar Willis Jr., 21, is still at large.

Police describe the Block Boyz as criminal organization based out of the Gardere area in south Baton Rouge.

In April 2014 as a part of the BRAVE initiative, the Block Boyz were given a warning to stop committing violent acts but did not listen, District Attorney Hillar Moore said.

"We are fulfilling the promise we made to them and the entire parish of East Baton Rouge," Moore said.

The investigation started after the murder of Franklin Lara, 19, on Jade Avenue in June 2013.

Police arrested Trevor Georgetown, 18, for Lara's death. Georgetown is a member of the Block Boyz, according to Moore.

The gang was also involved in a February 2014 shooting spree in Gardere where 65 shell casings were found but no one was injured, police say.

"We are not playing around," BRPD Chief Carl Dabadie said. "We mean what we say."

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, State Police and the U.S. Marshal's Office were also involved in the indictment, which covers years 2007-2014.

The Big Money Block Boyz were led by Chris "Big Money" Finister, 27, according to officials.

Finister is accused of dealing illegal drugs and prescriptions and is charged with racketeering.
