ERWINVILLE - Multiple agencies assisted in the arrest of a man accused of shooting and trying to rob an Erwinville convenience store customer Wednesday morning.

The West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office says 21-year-old Kevin Hamburg shot a 35-year-old man in the back at the LA Express Food Store on US 190. The gunman was trying to take his truck around 5 a.m.

Hamburg escaped to Pointe Coupee Parish where he hid in an apartment near a New Roads Walmart.

Authorities from West Baton Rouge and Pointe Coupee teamed up to surround the apartment. Hamburg refused to come out willingly. Agents entered the residence and arrested him after a nearly 30-minute standoff.

Hamburg will be transported back to West Baton Rouge where he will face charges of armed robbery and attempted murder.

The victim was transported to Our Lady of the Lake hospital where he underwent surgery and is now in stable condition.
