Surviving victim wants confessed murderer to face death penalty

BLUFF CREEK- The only surviving victim of a shooting that left people in East Feliciana Parish on edge believes Ryan Sharpe should face the death penalty after he confessed to committing three murders and shooting Buck Hornsby. A disturbing picture is emerging today about alleged murderer and shooter Ryan Sharpe's background.

The surviving victim, Buck Hornsby, said Sharpe performed plumbing work on his family member's property and was most recently there last week.

Jason Hornsby is Buck's cousin. He said Sharpe had his family's gate code and repeatedly asked how Buck was doing after the shooting. When news of the shootings broke, Hornsby said Sharpe told him the whole situation is "crazy."

Jason Hornsby said Sharpe was supposed to pick up $900 for plumbing work Saturday. He never showed up.

"He was doing work on an outdoor kitchen," Jason Hornsby said. "It is mind-boggling he was on our property the whole time."

Hornsby said Sharpe was a normal guy. He showed up to work on time and was referred in the community for his history of doing good work. Sharpe discussed enjoying fishing and hunting with Hornsby and even talked about his girlfriend.

"He just seemed like an old country boy," Jason Hornsby said. "He had a state license. He was a legit contractor, it's not like I was hiring someone off the street. It was a recommendation from someone else out there."

Tonight, the only shooting victim who managed to survive said he has forgiven Sharpe, but believes it's now time for him to pay for what he confessed to committing.

"I believe he deserves the death penalty," Buck Hornsby said. "This guy left three families and their extended families distraught and almost left my family and friends distraught. The bible says what a man soweth he shall also reap. I know God is going to take care of him."
