Summer magic ahead for winners of $20,000 Yard Makeover contest
BATON ROUGE - The Couvillion Family is already planning a summer packed with magical events in their new and improved backyard as they were the winners of WBRZ's $20,000 Yard Makeover contest.
Jeremy and Beth Couvillion's Jefferson Highlands backyard was transformed into a brilliantly verdant green space complete with huge flower beds, native Louisiana trees, a new walkway and an outdoor living room.
All plants were provided by Louisiana Nursery and accessories were contributed by Sabine Pools, Spa & Furniture. The labor came from Turf Scape and financial support was provided by Essential Federal Credit Union.
While the aesthetic impact of the makeover is hard to miss, some of the most impressive work completed during the project was underground as the team handled a major drainage issue in the Couvillion's backyard. The crack team of landscaping experts, including students from LSU's Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture, developed and installed a system of pipes, drains and French drains to make sure the yard will stay high and dry, even with rainy weather like we've been encountering for the past few weeks.
"I think we did a good job of beautifying the area, correcting a major drainage problem, made a nice area for the kids to play," said Mitch Mayes of Louisiana Nursery. "I'm really happy with it."
Needless to say, the Couvillion's are beyond happy with the end result of the makeover as their calendar for months to come is certain to be jam-packed with barbecues, crawfish boils and outdoor fun of all varieties.
