Students selected for new magnet school
DONALDSONVILLE- Students in Ascension Parish now know if they'll be a part of the new West Side Magnet Program.
The program takes high achieving students and gives them more rigorous classwork and a laptop or iPad to help them with their studies.
"The thing I'm probably looking more to is probably the laptop you know because what kid doesn't like technology," said Kayla Daigle, an 8th Grader at Lowery Middle School.
The program will also allow students to get college or high school credit.
"You get to experience what the older kids experience at a younger age, it's kind of like you're more advanced, but not more advanced than other people because they're also in the program," said D'Shaina Smith, an 8th Grader in Ascension Parish.
The school system may invite another round of students to the program once the first round students accept their invitations.
