Street flooding causes concerns, delays end of school Thursday

BAKER – A scary feeling of déjà vu overcame some people in Baker Thursday afternoon as localized street flooding left streets impassable and in at least one area, nearly flooded to the top of a fire hydrant.

People shared pictures of flooded streets in the Chemin Place area. The neighborhood is near the intersection of Groom and Plank.

People in the southern most area of the community captured water half-way up mailboxes and nearly covering fire hydrants and yard signs.

WBRZ Chief Forecaster Pat Shingleton said between 1 and 3 inches of rain fell in areas between Baker and Central Thursday. Click HERE for the latest forecast.

In Central, school officials withheld students at the end of the class day over concerns about severe weather and possibly flooded streets. Students were released a little later than what will be usual – Thursday was the first day of school there.

In Livingston Parish, water seeped into Denham Springs High, too, due to street flooding around the high school there.
