BATON ROUGE - Businesses are taking a hit with LSU's lackluster start to the season.
Managers at businesses depending on LSU to attract customers said Monday, they've seen high-dollar differences the Sunday following an LSU loss.
"Everybody's just in a period of mourning after a big loss," Zippy's owner Neal Hendrick said. "It's almost like you have a big bet on it because you do."
Hendrick's said on a losing weekend, his business stands to lose about $3000 a week.
"We see a drop in business from about 20-30 percent," he said.
But, it's not just at restaurants.
"I was heartbroken," Matherne's Grocery manager Michael LeSaicherre said with a sigh.
He said at his grocery store, revenue drops by more than $7000 the Sunday after LSU loses.
"We've be fortunate the last few years to win a lot and so we almost forget how to lose at times," LeSaicherre said.
Both Hendrick and Lesaicherre say after LSU wins the jump is significantly higher, but the hangover from a loss lingers until Thursday when business picks up.
"From the end of the game on Saturday night, if there is a big loss, a big SEC loss, until about Thursday night when people are starting to think about the upcoming game the next weekend," Hendrick explained.
While depending on a game that's out anyone's control may not seem like the best business model, the businessmen don't mind the roller coaster.
"I've been all over. I've never seen anything like our tiger fans. When they're happy there's nothing like it," Hendrick said.
"LSU is right there with us, and we need to keep supporting our team and our local businesses," LeSaicherre said.
