State to fix eroding section of I-10 in Ascension Parish
ASCENSION PARISH- The state is working on a permanent fix for a section of I-10 that is eroding every time it rains.
Jeannie Guitreau lives near the area that is eroding and has called the state numerous times to express her concerns.
"One of these big 18-wheelers is going to come flying off the interstate if the actual roadway collapses," Guitreau said.
The section of Interstate that is crumbling is near the Cornerview Overpass on I-10. It's eroding on both the east and westbound sections of the interstate.
"The interstate is sloughing off on the side," Guitreau said. "It's breaking down the integrity of the interstate and clogging drainage ditches."
State leaders are aware of the problem and are working on a permanent fix. The state plans to bid the project out this summer. Until then, temporary repairs will continue to be made.
Meanwhile, that's not good enough for Guitreau, who is concerned something bad will happen before a fix is made.
"I keep seeing more and more of the dirt coming down," Guitreau said. "It's going to collapse if they don't fix it."
