Stanford Avenue could be complete next week

BATON ROUGE - Relief is on the way for drivers who use Stanford Avenue in Baton Rouge. Construction could wrap up by the middle of next week.

Stanford Avenue from S. Lakeshore Drive to Perkins Road is under construction as the city works to smooth out the rough and bumpy stretch of road. It's taken five months to get this done, but the Department of Public Works says the construction is almost over.

Back in March the street was stripped of its asphalt as crews worked to repair the concrete support underneath the road. This is the third time within three years that the avenue has been stripped, leaving residents frustrated.

"There were some issues with the roads prior to the sewer project beginning and we knew that but we didn't want to do a rehab until we knew we weren't going to have to go under it again," said DPW director, David Guillory.

Crews are working overnight to repave the street. The project costs about $1.1 million.
