St. Joseph Hospice Annual Altar

BATON ROUGE - St. Patrick is not the only saint being celebrated in Baton Rouge this week. It is also time to honor St. Joseph, one of the patron saints of Italy with a tradition of faith and food. It's time for the St. Joseph Altar, presented by St. Joseph Hospice.

"The reason St. Joseph Hospice honors St. Joseph this way is he's the saint of a holy and peaceful death," event organizer Rae Anne Firmin explains. "Plus it's a great way to give back to the community."

All proceeds from the event will go to the St. Joseph Hospice Foundation. That money helps assist terminally ill patients and their families.

Firmin says If contributing to a great cause is not enough to intrigue you to attend, the food should be.

"The food is incredible," she said this morning on 2une In. "It's meatless since it's during Lent, and the altar's originated in Sicily, which means it was mostly farmers and fishermen...It's seafood and fish and vegetables."

St. Joseph Hospice is hosting its annual St. Joseph Altar on Thursday, March 19th from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
