Southern University upholds firing of Brandon Dumas

BATON ROUGE –The Southern University Board of Supervisors has decided to uphold the firing of Brandon Dumas, the former university's vice chancellor. His last day at the university will be August 10.

Dumas' termination was discussed at the board meeting held on Friday. The possibility of appealing his termination was discussed in executive session until the board returned with the decision to uphold his firing around 5 p.m. on Friday.

Prior to Friday's decision, sources told the WBRZ Investigative Unit, that Dumas was served a termination letter recently. Though, Southern officials repeatedly refused to discuss details of the alleged letter until confirming Thursday morning Dumas was fired effective August 10. Dumas is on paid leave until then.

Dumas was abruptly suspended in June following a week of controversies which included a sex tape on the internet that purportedly involved a Southern administrator and an underling. Days after the video was posted online, Southern was warned in a separate situation that it could lose its accreditation.

Dumas was also connected to controversies in involving the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging, situations profiled numerous times by WBRZ and Chief Investigator Chris Nakamoto.
