Southern University athletic director reassigned
BATON ROUGE - Dr. William Broussard, Southern University's athletic director, announced Thursday that he has been temporarily reassigned from his current position to the Southern System Presidents office.
According to university spokesperson Edward Pratt, current men's basketball head coach Roman Banks will take over as acting athletic director. Banks will continue to serve in his coaching role while holding the interim positon, starting next month.
SUBR's sports committee is set to discuss the matter further at tomorrow's board meeting.
Broussard received a raise and a three-year contract extension in April 2014 that would have had him remain in the position until the summer of 2017.
The university would not openly provide a reason for the change, calling the move a personnel matter that is only a temporary situation. They also said they anticipate Dr. Broussard to return to his former position at beginning of August later this year.
News 2's Seth Lewis is gathering more details at the university. Expect more information coming up on our evening broadcasts, starting at 4 p.m.
