Southern students protest board's decision

BATON ROUGE - Students at Southern University staged a sit-in at the system president's office Tuesday to protest the recent decision not to renew Chancellor James Llorens' contract.

The Board of Supervisors voted not to the renew the contract last week. Llorens' last day of his three-year tenure would be June 30.

Both Llorens and system president Ronald Mason both showed up to talk to the students about the decision.

Llorens said Mason wanted to get him to agree to a contract that would give less power to the chancellor's office, and put more power in the hands of the system president. Mason said he wanted to get the system more involved in solving problems on Southern's Baton Rouge campus.

WBRZ News 2 will have more on the protest tonight starting at 4 p.m.
