Southern lack of running game
BATON ROUGE - When Southern closed a 17-point halftime deficit at homecoming to Alcorn State last Saturday, it begged the question: 'why run the ball when the passing game was so efficient?'
However, the answer might not be as simple as some fans might think.
The more the Jaguars run the ball and control the clock from the start of the game, the more their yards/carry average goes up - and increases their chances at winning.
While the run-pass ratio is a hot topic amongst Southern fans, head coach Dawson Odums and offensive coordinator Chad Germany maintain that balance is a result as to what type of game Southern is in from week to week.
