Southern beats Texas Southern 31-24
The Southern Jaguars held off a late Texas Southern rally to win 31-24 in Houston on Friday night.
Southern improved to 5-4 overall and 5-2 in the SWAC, maintaining their lead in the Western Division. With an Alcorn win over Prairie View the Jaguars would lock up a spot in the SWAC Championship game in Houston in December.
The Southern passing game didn't make it easy on the Jags, as quarterback Dray Joseph threw two interceptions and receiver Lee Doss fumbled away a ball on the teams first possession after making the catch.
Joseph finished the game 16 of 28 for 231 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Lenard Tillery led the Southern rushing attack with 75 yards on 16 carries, the Jaguars totaled 128 yards on the ground.
The Jaguars are back in action next Saturday at Alabama St.
