Sorrento Mayor lashes out, citizen wants recall
SORRENTO- Mayor Mike Lambert caused a scene at a special town council meeting when he erupted in front of the public and began yelling at the audience.
During the meeting, he lashed out a police employee, telling her to "Keep your mouth shut!" while pointing into the audience. He also tried to force a vote on a proposed insurance quote that could keep the town's police force in operation and a second vote that would allow the Sheriff's office to take over temporary policing duties.
Patti Poche, a councilwoman for the town, said she was willing to vote for the Sheriff's Office to take over policing duties in the town, but couldn't get her point across during the meeting.
"I think we could have gotten a lot more accomplished if there wasn't so much chaos going on, I think we could've made a vote, we could've made a decision, but with the chaos going on, there was no way we could possible get anything accomplished," said Poche.
Now members of the town are lashing out at Lambert, some calling for his tenure to be put to a vote.
"He ran on a platform that he wanted to do away with the police department and he may have some backers that want to do that, but I don't think the majority of the town does, I think we ought to put it up for a vote for the town, and I know there's quite a few people right now that really want to do a recall on him," said Brian Sisk, a resident in Sorrento.
The council will convene for it's regular town council meeting on Tuesday, when they could make a decision on the insurance proposal.
