Sorrento cop reprimanded for parking illegally
SORRENTO - Pictures of a Sorrento Police Officer parked in a handicapped parking spot are stirring controversy in the small Ascension Parish town.
Sorrento Police Chief Earl Theriot isn't wasting any time disciplining the officer.
""What I'm going to do is write a letter of recommendation that he will be placed on notice that if he violates the law again, we will take more action against him. Might be termination, might be time off. It depends on what the violation is," Theriot said.
Two separate pictures show Sorrento Police units parked in handicapped spots. One was taken recently and uploaded to Facebook. The other was sent to News 2 Wednesday morning.
Theriot said he has never had trouble with the officer but wants his staff to set more of an example.
"I don't know if he was on a call or if he just went over there, but I still don't tolerate that being done in a police unit," Theriot explained. "If things are brought to our attention, we will address them. I mean, we do not try to hide anything."
