Some cell phones can't reach LSP emergency line
BATON ROUGE- Verizon Wireless users statewide could be left out in the cold during an emergency on the road.
A Verizon spokeswoman company told News 2 that a problem with their network does not allow customers to access *LSP or 577. She said the company was unaware of the problem until News 2 brought it to their attention.
Dialing *LSP or 577 is supposed to allow callers to report highway emergencies. Verizon customers who try to dial it receive an error message that the call cannot be completed.
Robert Tomlin ran into trouble on the road today, and he believes that number should be available to everyone.
"People need that and it should be on all phones," Tomlin said.
Currently, the company's network team is working on the issue. They hope to have it fixed soon.
