Smashburger to vie for fast-casual burger niche
BATON ROUGE - There's a new place to get your hamburger fix in Baton Rouge starting tomorrow as Robert from Smashburger brought the news to our 4 p.m. broadcast on Tuesday.
Smashburger is a Denver-based chain that takes up the made-to-order, "fast-casual" burger banner that has become so popular these days. Robert says the way Smashburger stands out from its competitors is the method they use when cooking the burgers on the grill. The "smash" in the company name comes from the custom-made tool the cooks use to smash balls of raw meat into the grill, creating an optimal sear on the outside and allowing the meat to cook in its own juices. Robert says this produces a type of carmelization that is unlike any other burger you've had before.
Smashburger opens up tomorrow at 4747 Corporate Blvd across from Towne Center. If you're not keen on burgers, the chain also sells chicken sandwiches, fries, shakes made with Haagen-Dazs ice cream, craft beer and even has vegetarian options including salads and black bean burgers.
