Slain officer's wife speaks of forgiveness at funeral

BATON ROUGE - Overcast skies and rain moved through as Montrell Jackson's fellow officers removed his flag-covered casket from the hearse that brought him to his final resting place.
With her family surrounding her, Jackson's wife felt compelled to give a statement.
Ternish Jackson said, "I am deeply hurting right now because I miss him so much, but I also know there is work to be done until we unite. Until we forgive, the killing will not stop. We must come together as one so no one will have to experience the hurt and pain I'm feeling right now."
Louisiana State Police Troopers unleashed a 21-gun salute. Taps and bagpipes followed.
Until today Jackson's window had not spoken publicly about her husband's death.
"I know that there is fear and unrest among those who feel all police are bad, but please know and understand that not all police are bad. If you have been done wrong by an officer, call them out by saying that particular officer's name. I honestly believe by bringing attention to those who don't deserve to wear a badge and holding them accountable is the first step in ending this tragic cycle," Ternish Jackson said.
Jackson says her husband was a strong man, who stood for love and peace and hate was not at all part of his personality.
"I married a man who loved me and my son unconditionally. I can't think god enough for blessing me with an amazing husband," said Jackson.
