Sheriff: slain TV personality's life was a ruse
ST. GABRIEL - The sheriff leading Scott Rogers' murder investigation said the TV personality was facing two unresolved child molestation accusations in England.
Thursday, Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi's office spoke with federal agents and interviewed several key witnesses in Rogers' death. He discussed the case with WBRZ later in the day.
Before Rogers came to America, he was involved in three child molestation cases, Stassi said. Rogers was cleared in one allegation but the two others are still pending overseas, he said.
"There were some other accusations that come up that were not totally resolved when he left England," Stassi said. "I think the past history was catching up."
Rogers was shot and killed inside his Daisy Avenue home in St. Gabriel Wednesday. His accused killer, Mathew Hodgkinson, is believed to have shot Rogers then turned the gun on himself.
Hodgkinson is on life support and in an induced coma, Stassi said.
Hodgkinson was first reported as Rogers' friend, then his son-in-law. Thursday, deputies confirmed Hodgkinson was Rogers' live-in boyfriend. They said they came to that conclusion after interviewing people close to Rogers and his family.
"A lot of what we thought to be fact and true was a ruse," Stassi said. "Names change, locations change; yet he's hiding in plain view."
It is believed that Hodgkinson married Rogers' daughter so he could stay in the United States. Read more about that here. The sheriff is investigating to see if any charges need to be brought against Rogers' daughter, but Stassi has yet to find any marriage license or proof a marriage exist between Rogers' daughter and Hodgkinson.
The entire family, including the daughter and Rogers' adopted child and a foster child, lived at the house in Iberville Parish. On August 15th, the Department of Children and Family Services removed two boys from the home pursuant to a state court order. The Department of Homeland Security assisted in the boys removal, federal authorities said.
"I've seen relationship's end like this but not with all the nooks and crannies and curves of this one," Stassi said.
