Sheriff, school officials discuss placing officers at every school in Livingston Parish
LIVINGSTON PARISH - The Livingston Parish School system is in talks with the local sheriff's office to put deputies in every public school in the parish.
An LPSO spokesperson confirmed Tuesday that Superintendent Rick Wentzel approached Sheriff Jason Ard about positioning deputies at all 45 campuses.
There are currently only seven resource officers in total at Livingston schools.
The sheriff's office says nothing has been decided yet, but discussions among the school board members are set to resume after the Easter break.
The option will be discussed further at an upcoming Livingston Parish School Board meeting.
