Sheriff not ruling out charges in suicide

Related Story

NEW ROADS - The sheriff of Pointe Coupee Parish said he's not ruling out criminal charges yet in the death of a 17-year-old girl.

"Anyone that would take the law and go beyond the scope and actually break the law could be charged," Sheriff Bud Torres said.

Now, News 2 is not the only news organization asking questions. We broke the story Monday.

"I was called by CNN this morning," Torres said.

Torres said the coroner's report ruled Tesa Middlebrook's suicide was "unassisted". She was found hanging along the side of the Pointe Coupee Central High School football stadium this past Friday.

Middlebrook's family members contend she was bullied to the point where she killed herself. Torres said investigators continued today to question students, teachers and others close to the girl about the days leading up to her death.

A memorial is planned for Thursday at the Church she attended. Another memorial will likely be held at the school on Friday.
