Scotlandville arts camp
BATON ROUGE- The Scotlandville Alumni Association is giving kids in the area a chance to express their creative side this summer. The science of the arts camp is just one of the things the group is doing to help the community.
The camp is the first step toward building an arts center in Scotlandville. The alumni have already locked down grant funding and accuired a building. Now, they're just waiting on renovations needed for the building.
The two week science of the arts camp is the first in what's expected to be a long line of programs to come. Campers are able to participate in creative activities through different types of art, such as, drawing, painting, music, and cartooning.
Almost 40 children signed up for the first session. The camp coordinator, Ella Desmond says , "It's inspiring to see the natural creativity and talent expressed by children". Desmond says, "Creativity is about coming up with multiple solutions for problems, which you can use all the time in life, regardless of if it's art."
"It makes me feel like I can be somebody," said Condoleezza Semien, a nine-year-old camper.
You can still register your children for the second week of the arts camp. It's open to all kids ages 5-13. It costs $11 to register and the deadline is Friday, July 10th. To sign your kids up for the camp you can email firstname.lastname@example.org
