Runnels 50th Anniversary Celebration
BATON ROUGE - Runnels Independent School is hosting several events this weekend to commemorate 50 years in Baton Rouge.
It was founded back in 1965. That makes Runnels the oldest independent school in the city. When it first opened, it was home to only preschool students. Over the past five decades, however, it has grown to include elementary, junior high and eventually, high school students.
The fun kicks-off Saturday the 50th Anniversary Gala and Fundraiser at the Lod Cook Alumni Center at LSU. The celebration continues Sunday with an Alumni Open House. That event begins at 2:00 p.m. In the Gladys Hague Runnels Auditorium. There's also a Field Day scheduled for Friday, October 17th.
Schools leaders say you don't have to be a Runnels alumnus to attend the events.
