Road work in Denham Springs leads to messy situation

Related Story

DENHAM SPRINGS - Cathryn Drive in Livingston Parish was overdue for a makeover, but when residents saw crews beginning to work on the road they never expected things to get quite so messy.

"When they left, it was even so wet [there were] liquid puddles of oil on top," said Anne Power, describing the tar-like substance laid on the road to bind the soil treatment.

Power says the tar tracked everywhere in her apartment complex and made cleaning tires and vehicles a real pain.

"Tires tracked it in from their cars, and they're just little puddles on the concrete, where it just came off the tires while they were sitting there on that first day," she said.

But the Department of Public Works says that's the only way they could lay the road, and the contractor did place signs warning residents to drive at extremely slow speeds. DPW did say any issues, such as tar tracked into parking lots, will be addressed by the contractor.

Work on the road is scheduled to be finished by the end of the month.
