Riverside communities take precautions ahead of Nate

SPRINGFIELD – Some people along popular boating areas have removed boats from the water or secured them ahead of a potential impact from Nate this weekend.

People in the Riverscape neighborhood of Livingston Parish spent Friday planning for rising water. Already, water is higher than usual and they don't want to take any chances.

"Since we are a waterfront community, the water can rise up over the bulkhead... and push the boat into the yard," resident Michael Cox said.

While he and others are taking precautions, they're not leaving.

"If it was a cat four or five, I would leave like everyone else. But, a little high water is not going to run me out of here," he said.

Cox said he has enough food stored in his home to last him a while.

"I'm okay," he said.

Others said it is likely people will start parking their cars on high roads to protect vehicles.

"You'll notice that later (Friday evening) or (Saturday)," another area resident, Eric Edwards, advised.
