Residents buy Copper Mill Golf Course
ZACHARY - Copper Mill Golf Course, which was under threat of closing, is here to stay after homeowners near the Zachary course bought it outright.
The Copper Mill Homeowners Association put up the $1.2 million dollars necessary to buy the course, voting 229-16 in favor of the purchase.
Other golf course subdivisions in the area let their courses go to outside owners and ended up with a closure, something residents didn't want to see happen.
"No one wanted to have a closure, but even more importantly than that in order to insure that that did not happen everyone said lets squire this course and give it what it needs to be the best course we can make it," said James Maughan, Copper Mills HOA President.
The HOA is looking into new management, new carts and a new clubhouse to be completed by the end of 2014.
"You want to give a course a clubhouse where you have something for the community to use to come together," said Copper Mill resident and realtor Traci Patin. "We have the gorgeous swimming, tennis, the Turnberry Park that's amazing... but we needed one more thing."
The association said their residents agreed to pay double their monthly dues for three years to cover expenses.
