Refinery fire under investigation
KROTZ SPRINGS - A refinery plant fire in St. Landry Parish is under investigation.
The fire happened at the Alon USA Refinery in Krotz Springs.
It started around 8:15 this morning in the reformers unit of the facility.
The refinery's emergency response team had the incident under control within ten minutes.
There were no injuries and everyone is accounted for.
Even though it was a minor fire, residents say it's enough to raise concern.
"My neighbor evacuated and head start evacuated in like 15 minutes. They were packed up and ready to go. It's a scary thing," said Angel Guillory.
Some residents had the plant explosion in West, Texas, in the back of their minds.
"It's like 500 yards to like the first office over there. If anything does happen, it would be bad for the whole area," said Chas Nall.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
There was no release of chemicals or gas from the fire.
