Red Jacket CEO trying to escape Hayden's scandal
BATON ROUGE - The CEO of Red Jacket Firearms is working to fix the company's tarnished image after the face of the company was accused of molesting women.
"Maybe I was being manipulated. Maybe what he was saying wasn't fully true. Maybe it wasn't true at all," Joe Meaux said.
Meaux cut ties with William Hayden a few weeks ago after he was charged a second time for molesting a 12-year-old girl.
Since the scandal started, Hayden's been charged with sexually assaulting three different women. One is a young girl. The two others are adults now but say they were abused as kids.
Meaux claims after the first allegations came out Hayden's stories stopped adding up.
"Talking further with Will and getting into these discussions, some things came to light. Some things didn't make sense that really threw up the flags," he said.
But, he did not go into detail.
"Stephanie said that she feared for her life and recently I come to find out that maybe I should have those same thoughts," Meaux said.
Hayden's daughter, Stephanie, went on national television and told Dr. Phil she was touched inappropriately by her father at the age of twelve.
Last month, the Discovery Channel cancelled Red Jacket Firearms' "Sons of Guns" television show, which followed the manufacturer's business in North Baton Rouge.
"Even though the show is not filming, we are going to put all of that behind us," Meaux said. "We are going to start moving forward."
Friday, the company plans to launch a re-imaging campaign, introducing new high powered machinery and equipment.
The shop has been closed to the public during most of the scandal.
