Reaction to prostitution arrest in quiet neighborhood
BATON ROUGE - The father of a woman arrested and charged with running a prostitution ring from her home, says he's disappointed and will let the law run its course.
"A dad doesn't want to hear this about his kids," said Arthur Fort. "I'm thinking as any family would. Shock, disappointment, just, kind of taking it rough."
Police said his daughter, Kaelice, and son-in-law Charles Smith were busted for soliciting sex on the website backpage.com. An undercover detective said Kaelice offered sex for $100.
"We got some calls from neighbors and family members and people who were concerned and who knew what was going on," said Baton Rouge Police Sgt. L'Jean McKneely.
The Smiths have a 7-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl who are in the care of their aunt now.
"They [the kids] did not know exactly what was going on. They knew that their mom did massages during the day," said McKneely.
According to the arrest report, Kaelice Smith said when men come over for sex, Charles took the kids for a ride. But, on the day they were arrested, she said her husband left to go pay bills with money made from their illegal business and the kids were inside the home.
Police also found a number of drugs inside the home.
The Smith's face prostitution and drug charges.
