Probation for dogs?

Related Story

DONALDSONVILLE- Next month, parish leaders will consider toughening a dangerous dog law in Ascension Parish.

The proposal would give animal control agents more power to track problem dogs. It would allow dogs to be monitored electronically and tagged as aggressive. The program is similar to probation for humans.

"We need some way to leverage the safety of the public," Michael LeBlanc with animal control said.

Dogs who are taken by agents and deemed dangerous by a judge would be receive a chip that would hold information about the dog, like who the owner is. Dogs would also wear a collar labeling them as a "dangerous animal."
