Pregnant woman slammed during armed robbery, man arrested
BATON ROUGE- A pregnant woman who was slammed to the ground and then dragged by her hair during an armed robbery is recovering after police made speedy work to arrest the accused criminal.
Baton Rouge Police arrested Jarvis Jack, 21, during a raid on his home yesterday afternoon and charged him with the armed robbery. The robbery happened earlier this month at the Dollar General on Hooper Road. Police found Jack after the blue ski mask that was ditched nearby turned up DNA evidence linking him to the crime.
"My cashier was pregnant and she got slammed on the ground pretty hard, and she got roughed up a lot and that made me personally, it made me bothered, it made me want to do something to him because she's so defenseless and he hurt her," said Patrice Ferry, the manager of the store.
Police understand violent crimes like armed robberies tend to rise during the holiday season, it's why the plan to beef up their efforts to curb robberies.
"We'll be doing special operations in areas that are commonly plagued with robberies and surveillance and other kind of operations," said Cpl. Tommy Stubbs with BRPD.
Police tell News 2 the arrest was aided by tips from the community.
