Powerhouse Gym: Construction has not begun
BATON ROUGE- Months after Powerhouse Gym received it's building permits there's still no construction going on inside the building.
It's something that has people who paid to be members upset.
"I joined for two years, and the incentive was that the fee would not go up and I would have an extra few months," said Linda Carpenter, who paid $785 up front for the membership.
Since then she's joined a new gym and wants her money back, but Powerhouse already cashed the check and says their policy states members can only cancel after the gym opens.
Court documents show the gym is in debt for thousands of dollars. Records show the gym owes more than $56,000 for rent, more than $46,000 for building supplies, and more than $58,000 to Capital City Press.
Powerhouse says they'll pay their bills once they secure finances from a new investment group. Representatives say once the money is secured construction will begin, but they were hesitant to put a time line on the construction.
Powerhouse owner, Ronnie Olah, said he hopes they gym will be open by October, a little too late for members like Carpenter.
"I feel like I've been scammed, that's all I can say, I'm sure the other people feel that way," said Carpenter.
