Powerball hits record $600M jackpot
BATON ROUGE - Lottery spokespeople in Louisiana said the quickly-growing Powerball jackpot has hit a new record high.
The Louisiana Lottery said the jackpot for the May 18 drawing is now $600 million, the highest Powerball jackpot on record. It would pay out $376.9 million for the cash option.
The only larger jackpot is the March 2012 Mega Millions prize, which swelled to $640 million. The current Mega Millions jackpot is $190 million, and is being drawn tonight.
Sales for Saturday's Powerball drawing are expected to push that pot even higher. Tickers for Powerball must be purchased before 9 p.m. the night of the drawing.
