Port Allen, Brusly look for ways to end fire

PORT ALLEN - A pair of brothers is charged in the separate murders that led to a community meeting in Brusly Wednesday night.

Carl and Marcus Richardson are accused of killing Justin Warner and Etan Irving.

Everyone agrees the violence has to stop. But, the question was how to do it?

As the ideas on how to calm the community started to flow, more and more heads began to nod in agreement to suggested solutions.

Like finding ways to expose kids to life, outside of West Baton Rouge Parish.

"To let them know that hey, there's more than just West Baton Rouge Parish out there. And when they get back they can say they've seen more things that are out there, come with me, that bridge right there, it goes somewhere and that gives you hope to do something in your life," said area resident Larry Johnson.

But, some fear the bad influence could be coming from just across the river.

"Do we want to be Baton Rouge? Do we want 70767, the Port Allen zip code, and the morning Advocate advertising how many murders we have a day," said West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Mike Cazes.

Organizers say they plan to make these meetings weekly in order to start the process of building a plan.

It was very reminiscent of the way Together Baton Rouge started, but only time will tell if West Baton Rouge can gain the same momentum.
